1. Identify the underlying cause of the problem.

What is Writer’s Block?

Contrary to popular belief, writer’s block is not a sign that you are a “poor writer”; rather, it is something that practically every writer will experience at some point in their career. However, while the majority of authors have had this experience, the underlying causes can be extremely different for each individual.

So let’s delve a little further and find out why you’re actually stuck. Consider the following questions:

Do I feel under any pressure to be successful and/or to compete with other authors?

Is it possible that I’ve lost sight of what my tale is about or lost interest in where it’s heading?

Do I have a lack of confidence in my own abilities, despite the fact that I’ve written a lot in the past?

Is it possible that I haven’t written in such a long time that I am intimidated by the prospect of doing so?

Is it just that I’m feeling exhausted and run-down?

A distinct solution is available for each of these dilemmas. Example: If you’re struggling to write because of perfectionism, you might try accepting the truth that no one’s first draft is perfect — in which case, method #4 on this list may be quite beneficial to you. Another option is to consult some of the resources listed in #7 if you’re feeling uninspired.

Understanding the underlying causes of writer’s block is the first step toward overcoming it.

It goes without saying that there is no quick remedy for any of these issues. Understanding the nature of your problem, on the other hand, can assist you in determining which tips are most appropriate for you as you read through our list.

2. Make a list of your favorite books and authors.

What was it that first drew you to the idea of starting a blog? There’s always the option of turning to your favorite book or an author you like for guidance and inspiration. When you find yourself in a rut, returning to these sources can be quite beneficial in rekindling the spark that got you started.

| Read novels if you have writer’s block.

Make a list of your favorite books and authors, and then think about what it is about each of them that you admire. What do they have in common versus what makes them different? Consider specific writing styles or literary devices that you might be able to incorporate into your own work, as well as subjects that you find particularly appealing.

Consider the novel The Great Gatsby: are you drawn to the glitz and glam of 1920s New York as the main character is? Perhaps you’re drawn in by the opulent, larger-than-life characters, or perhaps you’re intrigued by the drama and intrigue that runs throughout the plot. Alternatively, perhaps you admire Nabokov’s literary embellishments – it may be difficult at first, but you could experiment with writing in a similarly elaborate style.

Figure out what it is that you are looking for in the literature you are reading, whatever it may be, and incorporate that into your own work from there. It also serves as an excellent excuse to read even more the next time you’re looking for inspiration.

3. Establish a reliable regimen on What is writer’s block?

According to Twyla Tharp, a well-known author and dancer, “Creativity is a habit.” This may sound paradoxical to some – after all, isn’t creativity something that happens organically and cannot be planned? Isn’t it something that can’t be scheduled? However, the truth is that if you just write when you “feel creative,” you’ll inevitably find yourself in a rut. One of the most effective methods of pushing through is to write on a daily basis.

It’s possible that you already have a writing regimen, but if you’re facing writer’s block, it’s time to shake things up a little! Determine the days and times that are most productive for you – for example, if you are most productive in the mornings, it may be worthwhile to get up half an hour earlier to squeeze in some writing time during the day. Alternatives include scheduling writing sessions on Sunday afternoons when you have no other obligations, if that is more your style.

Whatever days and times you choose, make a point of being consistent. The only way to establish a dependable routine is to commit to attending your scheduled sessions on time! If you give it at least 3-4 weeks, you’ll start to see some genuine improvement.

4. Write it in a sloppy manner at first.

Many writers suffer with perfectionism, which may be particularly crippling during the first draft of a novel. Lauren Hughes, editor at Reedsy, says:

“Writers’ blocks frequently develop as a result of a great deal of strain placed on themselves to sound ‘perfect’ the first time. When writing a draft, one of the best ways to loosen up and have fun again is to give oneself permission to write in an imperfect manner.”

For example, writers often spend hours searching for the most appropriate wording to express a topic. You can avoid this pointless (and block-inducing) exercise by beginning your sentence with “In other words…” and simply expressing what you’re thinking, whether it’s elegant or incoherent. If you want to go back and refine it later, you can use the CTRL+F keyboard shortcut to search for “in other words.”

When it comes to writing, greatness is the enemy of excellent — and a primary source of writer’s block.

You might also consider the extreme remedy offered by The Most Dangerous Writing App if you’re completely paralyzed. Simply schedule a timed writing session, and if you take more than a few seconds to stop typing, all of your material will be lost. The name of this app speaks for itself — but if you’re desperate to quit overthinking everything you write, this app will undoubtedly do the trick!

5. Enter the story from a new route.

Hughes recommends that you try to see your tale from a different perspective in order to move past a stumbling block. “How would a minor character describe the scene if they were there to witness it?” says the author. “Was that a ‘fly on the wall’ or something else inanimate?” Changing the point of view of your tale (even for a short period of time) is a terrific method to break free from mental shackles and get new knowledge.

To see point of view in action, have a look at this in-depth explanation of what POV is, which includes several instances.

Alternatively, delving further into the past of one of your main characters may provide you with a greater understanding of their motivations – which will, in turn, help you move your story ahead in the right direction. Consider what aspects of your character’s existence might make them feel pleased with their lot in life. What exactly are their objectives? What are they willing to put their lives on the line for in order to attain them? Following the completion of these broad inquiries, you can examine them in any context and ask, “What is their purpose in this particular situation?”. “What action(s) will they take to further their investigation?”

For example, if your protagonist’s primary goal is to save money and relocate, how would they react if their best buddy approached them about taking out a loan? Or what if they got into a new relationship soon before they were about to depart the country?

Various personalities and objectives lead to conflicts that propel your novel forward – in fact, when changing the POV or adding backstory doesn’t work to alleviate writer’s block, jump right into the middle of a fight! So that brings us to our next point…

6. Begin in the middle of the page.

When it comes to creating a story, there is no hard-and-fast rule about starting at the beginning — if you’re more passionate about the middle of the story, then start there! Alternatively, you may already know how you want your tale to conclude and would like to work backward. It doesn’t matter which direction you go, you’ll feel less pressure to make a good impression right away – and by the time you go back to the beginning, you’ll have warmed up!

It’s also a good idea to try outlining your plot in its entirety if you haven’t previously in order to gain a better sense of the larger picture. Although improvising can be entertaining, creating an outline will offer you a much better idea of where your tale is going and may even give you the motivation to keep writing! Not to mention that determining the trajectory of your tale might not only help you resolve your current problem, but it can also help you avoid future problems.

When you start outlining, you’ll discover that “the knowledge that you need to create that subsequent chapter has an uncanny way of just coming up,” according to author Tom Evans. As soon as your brain recognizes the material you’re supposed to write, the chapter begins to flow.” The blueprint in hand, you’ll find it lot easier to put your story together than you otherwise would.

7. Make the most of your toolkit.

Upgrading your tools can assist you overcome writer’s block in the same way that switching to a different scene might. When it comes to writing, there are numerous tools available to assist you with everything from dull word processors to character development and even coming up with ideas for what to write in the first place.

  • With the Reedsy Book Editor, you can format your book as you write, and it even has an integrated goal-setting system. It’s completely free to use.
  • If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas, the Story Generator, which has one million plot combinations, is a wonderful place to start.
  • Alternatively, if you’re working on fleshing out some of your side characters, you may use the Character Name Generator.

8. Come up with something else to write.

It can be beneficial to divert your attention away from your present project and work on something else at times. Please understand that we are not proposing that you abandon your novel and begin a new one; however, taking some time away to write anything different may leave you feeling rejuvenated and may even inspire ideas for your other writing.

By putting together the resources from our previous tip, you might attempt drafting the outline for a storyline that is completely distinct from your main project, or fleshing out the backstory of a random character from the generator (you could utilize the questions from tip number five for guidance!) Check out Reedsy Prompts for over 1,000 short story prompts that will help you get your creative juices flowing if none of these strike your fancy.

9. Do something else besides writing if you’re having writer’s block | do something else if you’re having writers block

Taking a break and mentally “resetting” after hours of sitting at your desk may be quite beneficial before starting a new writing session can be extremely beneficial.

The activities like showering, walking around the block, cooking, and taking care of one’s family are all duties that most people would agree are less difficult than writing a novel — but they may all provide you with time to daydream and find creative connections that you might otherwise miss. Simple as shampoo, rinse, and repeat until you’ve successfully kicked that block out of your life!

Creativity encourages the development of other forms of creativity.

Do you feel as if you require more time away? That isn’t a problem! Look for more creative ideas that can serve as inspiration for you. According to children’s book editor Maria Tunney, one of the most effective methods to get out of a creative rut is to step away from your own work and into someone else’s:

“Go to an exhibition, go to the movie, go to a play, go to a concert, enjoy a nice meal – immerse yourself in wonderful things and your synapses will begin to crackle in a different manner. Snippets of talks, noises, colors, and sensations will infiltrate a space that was before devoid of life. If this is the case, you might be able to return to your own desk with renewed enthusiasm.”

Take into consideration the fact that everyone has to take a vacation from their work from time to time. When you’re burned out, attempting to force words onto a paper will do more harm than good — and taking a break from writing may be just what you need to get the wheels spinning again.

10. Writer’s block is a misconception that should be dispelled.

I don’t think there’s any dispute about it: writing is difficult. If you’ve been working on a project for a period of time ranging from weeks to years, you’re going to become annoyed if you come across a seemingly insurmountable hurdle. In spite of the fact that there is almost always an underlying cause to any problem, there is always a means to cure it – albeit one that may require some time and devotion.

In addition to the strategies outlined above, here are a few mantras to keep in mind as you work to overcome your writer’s block:

“There are no permanent setbacks, only temporary setbacks,” says the author.

As the saying goes, “it makes no difference how slowly you travel as long as you don’t stop.”

“Every great writer has visited this place as well.”

When it comes to overcoming writer’s block, there are no magic tricks or formulas to follow. However, if you incorporate these ten suggestions into your creative arsenal, you’ll be well on your way to putting it to rest!

The Rise and Fall of Gengeton Music in Kenya

Gengeton is a Kenyan hiphop subgenre that emerged from Genge, a California-based hiphop label that featured acts like Pilipili and Nonini. Genge popularity spread across all East African countries. When its luminaries quit producing songs, the subgenre disappeared. Kenya’s music landscape, rather than being devoid of talent, was devoid of content at the time. We still had artists like Sauti Sol, but we flocked to Naija for entertainment due to a paucity of Kenyan music.

The Rise and Fall of Gengeton

Gen Z, on the other hand, has returned to explore, reimagine, and reconstruct Genge, and thus Gengeton was formed. And my goodness, they’ve been pumping out good music at such a breakneck pace that the market has finally reached saturation. Whatever you wanted to listen to, you’d be able to locate it.

When it first started to gain traction in 2019, Gengeton was a huge success. However, due to the quarantine imposed by Government of Kenya in 2020, Gengetone musicians such as Sailors Gang, Boondocks Gang, and the Ochungulo family were unable to perform. Especially because the strictest form of the curfew was in effect for the better part of the year and is still in effect in some form.

Because artists could no longer perform, there was no revenue generated or circulated in the music industry. So what’s the point of pumping out so much music? You’d be better off concentrating on something else to help you pay your debts. As a result, Amapiano, a South African Kwaito offshoot, has become more popular in Kenya.

Dunia ni duara, as they say, and things truly do come full circle. We have seen Genge (and other Kenyan genres) bloom and fall, only to be supplanted by Naija-pop. The advent of Gengeton followed, making it fashionable to show your affinity for Kenyan music. Amapiano’s popularity, on the other hand, is on the rise right now.

We must satisfy Kenyans’ appetite for Kenyan content if we want them to embrace Kenyan culture. And it is here that the Gengeton artists are given the gauntlet. Clearly, there is a demand for the sub-genre, and our best musicians are needed to meet it. Kenyans have welcomed Otile Brown and Sauti Sol, and by remaining constant, they have cornered their market.

When selecting a topic, keep the following factors in mind:

Consider the length of the needed task before making your decision. Is it going to be 10 pages lengthy or 5 pages long? How many words do you need? Considering the duration will assist you in selecting a topic because you will be able to determine how broad or narrow the topic should be.

Check out your local library or your school’s library for any available resources. You might also seek for any online materials that are available. Assemble a library of books and other materials to use as references for your paper.

Complexity: Make sure you can explain your issue, no matter how difficult it may be. Don’t be scared to ask specialists if you have any questions. Request that your professor explain any aspects of your topic that you are unsure about.

What Is the Best Way to Begin a Term Paper?

Before you begin, ensure sure you have read and understood the instructions. Before beginning any research or writing, check with your instructor for clarifications. Don’t put off writing a research paper until the final possible moment. Plan ahead and set aside time each day to write your homework if you want to get a good mark. Allow time for editing before submitting your work to your lecturer.

Making a captivating and original title is an excellent place to start. Make sure your title page catches your reader’s attention because it is the initial impression of your work.

Outline for Term Paper

The outline should be created both before and throughout the research and writing of a term paper because it will act as the foundation for your work. There are many templates to pick from, but your instructor will most likely want you to follow a specific essay format. An introduction, a body, and a conclusion should be included in the key portions.

The structure should be well-researched and well-organized. Technical writing skills are essential for structuring your thoughts. The following is a sample term paper format or layout to follow while presenting your argument or topic:

  • Cover page: In the center of the page, align the text that includes your name, course number, teacher’s name, and the deadline date.
  • The abstract, which is usually less than a page long, describes your work. It informs readers about the topic of the term paper, the problem at hand, and why you chose the topic because it was fascinating or relevant enough to write about.
  • The issue to be covered should be stated at the beginning of the introduction. Explain the importance of the topic or issue at hand, then write about how you intend to discuss or resolve it.
  • The essential points from your research should be included in the body of your text. Provide background information on the topic so that the reader can better comprehend the discussion. Remember to include certain viewpoints on the subject as well as your interpretation of the research you conducted.
  • Results: Describe how your study has lead you to specific conclusions about your subject. How has your perspective evolved since the start of the project? Is it still the same, and if so, why? Connect everything you’ve been saying to what you said in the beginning.
  • Discussion: Finish with a summary and conclusion about the subject at hand. Finish with an opening question or a conversation that encourages the reader to pursue his or her own research on the issue.

How to Write a Term Paper

You should understand what a term paper proposal is before you begin studying and writing. Basically, through your proposal, you should be able to defend your idea to your instructor. Before drafting the actual term paper, this proposal must be submitted and accepted.

Include any recent studies or research that you’ve done on the subject. Don’t forget to reference your sources properly. Submit a short article with a clear explanation to demonstrate the connection of your topic to your course. Describe your goals and how you plan to achieve them.

If your professor didn’t give you a proposal template or example, you can use the following format:

This is the rough title of the topic you want to explore. Make it simple and easy to understand.

Objectives: In this section, you should define your research’s outcomes.

Include recent news, social events, articles, and blogs that emphasize the topic’s relevance and importance. Your topic should be current and catch the reader’s interest.

Many term paper proposal examples, including formats and templates, may be found online. You can use these forms if you want, but be sure to keep your proposal organized and remember to highlight your important arguments and aims.

Format for Term Papers

Consider the length of your paper and the citation style you’ll employ before deciding on a format. When conducting research on a certain topic, you must adhere to a specified citation style. It’s possible that you’ll be accused of plagiarism if you don’t properly reference your sources. Furthermore, because a term paper is an academic writing project, APA or MLA citation styles are frequently used.

For social sciences, use the APA (American Psychological Association) term paper format. The author’s name, the title of the book, the year of publication, the publisher, and the location of the book must all be included in an APA style term paper citation. As a result, remember to incorporate this information in your research.

In liberal arts and humanities, the MLA (Modern Language Association) format is most widely used. In this arrangement, the publication name, date, and location are also required.

Term Paper Example

The timeline of events from 1776 to 1861 that ultimately led to the American Civil War describes and relates to a number of topics that modern historians recognize as the Civil War’s roots and causes. Indeed, pre-Civil War events had both long-term and short-term effects on the War, such as Abraham Lincoln’s election as president of the United States in 1860, which led to the fall of Fort Sumter in April of that year. Since they were the first events that arose following independence, disagreements about states’ rights gradually burst in Congress during that time. Congress concentrated on settling major issues that affected the states, which resulted in further problems. The United States’ history from 1776 to 1861 is replete in contrasts, dissections, and tensions between the Southern US and the people of slave states, and the Northern states that were loyal to the Union, in that order. From 1776 to 1861, a number of challenges arose as a result of the great sectional crisis that resulted in political differences and the build-up to the Civil War, which made the North and the South appear to be unique and timeless territories that predated the crisis itself.

Statement of Purpose MBA Sample

The importance of a statement of purpose (statement of purpose MBA sample) in establishing your GPA score cannot be overstated. It aids in your differentiation from other students. Many people overlook the significance of the statement of purpose for graduate school, and as a result, their statements wind up sounding repetitious and lacking in creativity. You should not pass up this excellent occasion to demonstrate your writing abilities and to demonstrate to the educational institution to which you are applying that you are exactly what they require.

Need help with your Essay/ Homework?  GET AN INSTANT QUOTE

In this post, we’ll go over the most significant qualities that admissions officers look for in applicants, as well as provide some pointers, ideas, and statement of purpose examples to help you stand out. We’ll show you how to craft a statement of purpose that will guarantee you a position at your dream university. We’ll also talk about how to use narrative to communicate your passion, hobbies, experiences, and overall attention to the subject.

What Is a Statement of Purpose MBA Sample

A statement of purpose is a formal written declaration that follows the essay structure. It explains why a student wants to go to graduate school, exhibits their expertise and experience, and gives the admissions office an accurate picture of who the student is. Long-term goals and methods for reaching them, such as graduating from high school, are always beneficial. The admissions staff is unfamiliar with you, and it is up to you to explain who you are and why you are the best candidate for admission. Your statement of purpose is the most effective tool for carrying out these goals.

Writing a statement of purpose for graduate school means fusing your interests and experiences into a compelling narrative that demonstrates your commitment to continuing your education. This statement also explains what career you want to pursue and how this program will help you achieve on that route.

Statement of Purpose MBA Sample
Statement of Purpose MBA Sample

When writing a statement of purpose, keep the following points in mind:

  • Your college’s facilities, community, location, basic beliefs, and how they represent your own, as well as how the school’s program will benefit you.
  • Your objectives are as follows: What made you decide to enroll in this program? Discuss your commitment level, how much experience you have in this area or field, and how much passion and effort you are willing to put into it.

Graduate schools are looking for candidates that are self-assured and motivated. Your statement of purpose must stand out among hundreds of other applicants in order to be chosen. Your sincerity and uniqueness must impress admissions officers.

A statement of purpose not only demonstrates your personality and desire to continue learning, but it also demonstrates your writing abilities. Picky admissions officers will assess basic skills such as language and punctuation, as well as your storytelling vision and ability to sell oneself. Keep the big picture in mind while writing a statement of purpose, and depict yourself as a dedicated student—not only in your career objectives, but in your life as a whole.

How Long Should a Statement of Purpose Be?

One page is the best bet for the length of a statement of purpose. You can write an additional half-page if you need more; but, a page and a half is the maximum length you should write in your statement of purpose for graduate school. First and foremost, consider how many admissions officers are involved. If it’s too long, they’ll assume you’re not motivated enough to make a well-thought-out remark. A lengthier statement of purpose demonstrates a lack of concentration in articulating your ideas. They can pass you over and go on to the next candidate without even giving you a chance.

Statement of Purpose’s Fomart

The format of a statement of purpose is fairly similar to that of a basic essay. These publications, on the other hand, do not necessitate any research or citations. You won’t need a title page or a works cited section if you utilize the statement of goal format because you won’t be employing sources.

A statement of intent should be formatted as follows:

  • Times New Roman (or similar) typeface,
  • 12 point;
  • 1-inch margins on all sides; 1.5 line spacing;
  • maximum length of 2 pages;

The statement of intent format requirements are a basic formality that shows the school that you can express yourself properly and follow the rules of academic writing. Let’s get started on how to correctly begin a statement of purpose.

How to Begin a Purpose Statement

It’s crucial to brainstorm and decide on your ideal portrayal of oneself before you begin writing. Review your long-term objectives (for example, you could wish to work in a specific field) and explain why the school you’ve chosen is an important step toward reaching them. This is vital information that you are providing to the admissions office. Make an effort to be as descriptive as possible. Instead of saying “I want to be a designer,” say something like “I’d like to work as a senior Graphic designer at a firm that focuses on environmental sustainability or improving our ecological predicament.” You offer a far better impression by making the text more vivid with specifics.

Start writing a draft of your statement of purpose after you’ve brainstormed and jotted down your ideas. Include your major principles for applying to the institution you’ve chosen:

  • 1st paragraph introduction: introduce yourself and state your purpose;
  • Second paragraph, body: what has inspired you to take this path?
  • Explain why you are a good fit for this program in the body, third and fourth paragraphs.
  • Conclusion, final paragraph: What are your professional objectives in this field?

As you can see, your statement of purpose (SOP) is structured similarly to a normal five-paragraph essay.

The following is an example of an excellent opening paragraph for a statement of purpose:

Example of What Is a Statement of Purpose MBA Sample

: I am interested in applying to the University of Southern California’s MBA program in Cartoon Animation in the spring of 2020. My desire to learn more about cartoon animation stems from my daughter’s early interest in cartoons and comic books, as well as my screenplay profession. I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in screenwriting in 2010 and immediately began working as a cartoon scriptwriter. After becoming a father, I was compelled to assist my adolescent daughter in developing an interest in filmmaking, which was sparked by learning about Steven Spielberg’s early life and accomplishments.

What Do I Write in a Statement of Purpose Format?

According to the statement of purpose structure, the first paragraph should define who you are and contain your background information. It’s also crucial to write down your career objectives. Make sure that all of the information you provide is relevant to the program for which you are applying. If you’re applying to an engineering program, mentioning your interest in marine biology isn’t going to help you in any way. It’s preferable if all of the information you give the admissions board about yourself links in some way to what the program has to offer.

For Example: program, it’s critical to include information about your drawing expertise and design talents. Obviously, if you are majoring in it, no one will teach you how to draw the fundamentals; you must have your own background and demonstrate to the admissions board that you already possess them. Also, explain why you enjoy drawing and painting — is it for self-expression? Is it a goal of yours to share your creativity with others? Anything might be the case. Your statement of purpose will be fantastic if you simply be yourself and write from the heart.

The second paragraph of your statement of purpose should explain how your curiosity grew into a passion. You’ve set the tone in your previous paragraph by stating that you have the necessary skills and background for the program, and now it’s time to show how your interest has grown over time.

You can’t just declare, “I enjoy teaching.” Go a step further and be more precise. Was there been a time when you had to explain a math issue to your younger sister because she couldn’t figure it out on her own? Maybe you enjoyed assisting classmates with their schoolwork and they reaped the benefits? Details like this help the admissions committee see you as a person who actually enjoys teaching and assisting others. When it comes to this form of writing, many people are overly generic, which leads to them seeming boring and failing to stand out.

Your field experiences are described in the third and fourth paragraphs. Explain the general experience you may have at the start of the third paragraph. Then dig into the details, such as any previous jobs, internships, volunteer work, or unique projects. However, keep in mind that these experiences must be relevant to the program for which you are applying. It may be tough to imagine such events, but there is always a way to improve.

Example: If you’re seeking to be a teacher, your experience as a grocery store clerk is irrelevant, but detailing how you trained and educated new cashiers yielded the best results positions you as a skilled teacher who can produce amazing learning outcomes.

Your experiences should complement the school’s curriculum. The more closely your experiences match the program, the better your odds are. You must demonstrate in your statement of purpose why you are a deserving candidate for the program.

You can also include any other facts about yourself in the fourth paragraph that you haven’t had a chance to express in the previous paragraphs. However, avoid long stories that are unlikely to impact the admissions committee’s judgment. Be honest about your accomplishments and make a list of them. Use it as an additional opportunity to demonstrate why you are the right person for the job. Remember that a statement of purpose should be one page, or one page and a half.

You must discuss your objectives in your concluding paragraph. The importance of attention to detail and minutiae cannot be overstated. “I want to be a registered nurse,” don’t say. Instead, offer something like, “My dream is to work at a local hospital’s ICU as a first responder, helping individuals in critical situations.” I’m fully capable of functioning under duress, and I’d like to incorporate my calm yet focused attitude into my work ethic.” Admissions board members can definitely picture you donning scrubs and performing CPR after reading your second career objective.

You’ve talked about your successes and experiences up to this point.

Questions to Answer for the Admissions Committee

Now that you know how to write a statement of purpose, let’s look at some particular questions you can ask yourself to ensure you’ve covered all of the bases and made the best possible impression. The admissions committee will not directly ask you these questions; instead, they will want you to include this information in your statement of purpose. To get a thorough view of your personality, aspirations, and commitment to the program, try to answer them by narrating a story:

  • What academic path did you choose, and what was your motivation for doing so?
  • What led you to this college and why did you decide to apply?
  • Why did you chose this country if you’re applying to a school abroad?
  • What kind of background do you have in the field you’ve chosen?
  • What talents do you want to acquire as a result of obtaining this degree?
  • What are your plans after graduation: will you look for work with this degree or will you continue to study?
  • What do you want to get out of this school and program?
  • Is there a particular professor whose lectures you anticipate? If you answered yes, please explain why.
  • What can you do to help the school using your talents and experience?
  • What are your interests, hobbies, or habits, and how would you describe yourself as a person?
  • What do you think your chances are of fitting in with the student body at this school?
  • How do the values of the school reflect your own, or vice versa?
  • How do you set yourself out from the competition?

You will demonstrate to the committee that you are the best candidate for this degree by answering these questions.

Writing Techniques for a Statement of Purpose

Standing out from the crowd is an important component of creating a statement of purpose. Many mission statements are nearly identical, and they get lost amid hundreds of others. You may make your comment stand out by encouraging your inner writer to spill it all out and shaping it into a compelling story. Here are a few ideas to help you come up with an innovative statement.

Templates should not be copied.

The statements of purpose of many students follow the same basic structure and do not distinguish out. Before tossing this statement into the nearest recycling bin, an admissions officer will take a quick glance at it:

Example of a bad statement: I am really pleased to apply to the University of Vermont’s Master of Science degree since I have always been fascinated by science. In class, I remember thinking of being a scientist or engineer.

This type of opener is boring and lifeless. The author claims to be passionate about science, yet fails to persuade us. Unfortunately, no matter how passionate the writer is about the issue, such a bad statement does not convey a true picture of how the author feels about it. To be unique, tell a tale to convey the same message.

The King Is the Story

A story aims to establish a connection between you and your reader. Make them feel empathy for you by using vivid visuals and descriptive language. Don’t be afraid to use adjectives and other small details to assist the reader form an image of you. A statement of purpose, on the other hand, should not be a narrative, but rather incorporate crucial aspects of a story.

Example of a good statement: Working in an office has prompted me to consider launching my own business. Giving back to the world has always been a dream of mine since I was a child. I was a really imaginative kid. After work one day, I thought it was time to begin my search for a business school where I could learn to become a successful entrepreneur.

This is a dull story since it is made up of dry facts with no context. What type of workplace was it? What’s the connection between being creative, wanting to make a difference in the world, and looking for a business school? There isn’t a plot or a relationship. The writer expresses their dissatisfaction with their office job, but fails to pique the reader’s interest;

The reader has no sympathy for the author, and there is no use of vivid or descriptive language.

Here’s one that’s a little better:

I used to work at an office, as an example of an excellent statement. Every day, I’d type for hours, battling with disgruntled consumers and assuring them that their problem will be resolved as soon as possible. I was exhausted after work one morning and decided to take a walk across my lovely city. “I don’t want to work for someone else,” I found myself thinking. “I’d like to establish my own business.” I jogged back home and began looking for business schools to apply to without wasting any time.

What’s the difference between the two?

The writer in the second example is more descriptive. “I used to work at an office,” the first sentence, is brief and direct enough to convey the dullness of an office job. The following sentence defines this employment, ironically twisting the customer service term “your issue will be resolved in the shortest period possible.” The writer employs descriptive terms like “drained” and “jogged” throughout the text, which paint a more complete image than the words “sad” and “ran.” You build this bridge, a specific connection with the reader, who immediately “feels for you” and sympathizes, by being explicit.

The second plot follows the same three-act structure as the first: setup, conflict, and resolution, which is typical in movies, plays, and literature. The protagonist is depicted as an ordinary office Joe (setup), who gets unsatisfied with his job (conflict), and finds inspiration – or even atonement – by rediscovering his or her passion for starting a business (resolution).

When discussing your accomplishments, be specific.

Applicants who are brave and confident in their ability to succeed are valued by the admissions committee. You must be quite detailed in outlining your achievements, citing quotes, dates, award titles, and so on, to demonstrate your level of experience. It sounds like you’re boasting when you’re being too vague. The admissions committee knows exactly what you’re talking about, notwithstanding the specifics.

Example: “Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood,” George Orwell, author of 1984, one of the numerous political texts I studied for my honor’s thesis on political psychology, argues.

I present a synopsis of my senior thesis, which earned me the 2007 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Marketing at Vermont University, to formally explain my interests and objectives in digital marketing.

Don’t use the same purpose statement for many schools.

Applicants frequently make the error of copying and pasting the identical statement of intent to many schools at the same time. This will significantly reduce your chances of admission, as each school looks for unique features in each applicant that explain why you are a good fit for them. They want to see that you put in the effort to write a statement of purpose that is tailored to their program and school as a whole. You don’t need to write seven separate statements of purpose, but a little editing can make a big difference. The foundation can remain the same, but tailoring it to each institution will greatly improve your chances of acceptance.

Harvard: Before relocating to Middlesex, England, I spent the majority of my youth in Zanzibar. As a result, I’ve been able to adjust to a multicultural environment since I was a child. “Respect for the rights, diversity, and dignity of others” is one of Harvard’s values, and it perfectly reflects my upbringing and philosophy.

Stanford: My cosmopolitan upbringing has compelled me to learn about the world out of natural curiosity, and my working-class upbringing has made me a hard worker who always closes the deal. As a result, Stanford’s goal to “advance our mission as a research university to serve as a place of enlightenment and freedom of opinion and expression” reflects my own perfectly.

Use a formal but conversational tone in your writing.

Maintain a conversational tone, despite the fact that this is a formal document. The admissions committee is interested in learning about you and your goals. They are quite aware that you are attempting to impress them, and what better way to do so than to be yourself? They are more interested in getting to know you, your hobbies, and your ambitions than in your ability to utilize clever synonyms and overly convoluted jargon.

Bad: I’m looking for a job in the competitive field of digital marketing.

Good: I’d like to work in the field of digital marketing.

You’ll get in if you’re yourself and honest about your aims and ambitions.

Example of a Purpose Statement

Here is a free statement of purpose sample that you can use to learn how to write and structure a statement of purpose. Rewriting someone else’s work is not a good idea. As previously stated, be one-of-a-kind and authentic.

It’s both lovely and mysterious to watch a youngster grow and develop as a result of your instruction. Others are hesitant, sluggish learners who come to you with a desire to learn. Nonetheless, everyone of them is an individual with a distinct personality and character.

Since elementary school, I’ve wanted to be a teacher. My worldview has been enlarged by being exposed to socially and culturally diverse groups of kids. I want to expand my skill set and turn my passion for teaching into a career by earning a Master of Arts degree.

A Statement of Purpose Checklist

Mastering the art of writing a statement of purpose is only half the battle. The most crucial step is editing, which is stitching your work together and ensuring that it flows. We’ve put prepared a proofreading checklist that you can use. Each statement of purpose is different, therefore these points may differ based on yours. Let us know if something is missing from the list in the comments, and we’ll add it:

  • Introduce yourself ntroduce yourself ntroduce yourself n
  • Demonstrate your enthusiasm for the topic of study;
  • Give some history on why you’ve chosen this career path;
  • Explain your academic background in this field.
  • As described in this post, answer the questions that the admissions committee would like to know.
  • Describe the lessons or activities in your education you are looking forward to;
  • Make a list of your academic and extracurricular accomplishments.
  • List your professional achievements, such as talks, official publications, and awards;
  • If you have any, name a problem you’d like to solve in the world.
  • Describe why you chose this particular school;
  • Specific reasons for applying to this college, such as location, subjects, professors, and so on;
  • Use descriptive language and tell a tale.
  • Avoid cliches such as “I’ve always wanted to be a doctor”;
  • Ensure that your hook is solid and that your ending makes a lasting impression.
  • Before submitting your work, get comments from at least three distinct people (a family member, a friend, and a professor).

General Information

Beowulf is an Old English epic poem about Beowulf’s life and exploits. Throughout the novel, he is a valiant mythical warrior who defeats animals and aids those in need. Beowulf is often regarded as one of the most important works of Old English literature. It features 3,182 alliterative lines with no rhymes, instead relying on alliteration as a primary literary method to create a feeling of unity and rhythm.

The poem, which was nameless, was most likely written between 975 and 1025. The events depicted in the poem took place in the sixth century, when Anglo-Saxon tribes began to settle in England. Scholars later suggested renaming the poem Beowulf after the main character. The poem weaves together real-life occurrences, fantasy, and elements from several Anglo-Saxon legends. There are no other works of literature that acknowledge or confirm Beowulf’s existence, hence the figure is usually assumed to be mythical. There is no mention of Beowulf himself, although some archeological evidence that the places and events in Beowulf were actual, such as the mead-hall, the many rulers, and certain conflicts and tribes.

It’s also worth mentioning that parts of the poem contain incidents and concepts that are similar to stories and legends from Denmark and Scandinavia.

Beowulf’s Summary

Over the course of the poem, Beowulf encounters and battles three big animals. We’ll look at each of them as a different turning point in his life, as well as his accomplishments as a good commander and warrior.

The First Combat

Grendel, a gigantic monster that could be an ogre or a troll, terrorizes Hrothgar and his warriors. Grendel despises joy and gladness, and he abhors festivals. He’s been going to Heorot for the past 12 years, a castle built by Hrothgar for himself and his troops. Grendel punishes those who enjoy themselves and celebrate. Every day, he feeds and murders Hrothgar’s troops, terrorizing and destroying Heorot.

Heorot saved a man from a dreadful death many years ago. Ecgtheow, Beowulf’s father, was revealed to be this man. When Beowulf learns of Heorot’s troubles, he sets off with 14 of his warriors to leave Geatland and assist Hrothgar in his fight against Grendel. Beowulf pledges honor to Hygelac, the Geatish king, and vows to return triumphant.

When Beowulf and his men arrive in Heorot, they are greeted by Hrothgar’s soldiers, who lavishly drink and feast on them. During the celebration, one thane, Unferth, a Hrothgar warrior, tries to make fun of Beowulf for losing a swimming competition years previously. Beowulf, according to Unferth, has no chance against Grendel, the legendary beast. Beowulf refutes his opponent’s claim, claiming that he merely got lost in the endless sea and walked in the opposite direction. He managed to kill nine sea creatures on his way back to land.

Grendel arrives in Heorot after everyone has fallen asleep following the revelry. He begins by attacking the mead-hall, killing one of Beowulf’s Geats. Grendel then attempts but fails to kill and eat Beowulf. Instead, Beowulf grabs Grendel’s arm and pulls it from his body all the way down to his shoulder with the strength of 30 men. Grendel flees the mead-hall, gravely hurt. All of the men congratulate Beowulf on his win. He hangs Grendel’s claw from the ceiling in all his splendour.

Second Battle

After Beowulf and his brave men defeat the monster, everyone rejoices. They drink a lot, listen to music, and eat wonderful cuisine. Hrothgar and his wife Wealhteow are so impressed by Beowulf’s performance that they present him with a gold collar. After a large feast, everyone falls asleep, believing that Grendel has been killed and that they are no longer in danger.

Grendel’s mother, the water witch, disturbs their peace and sleep. She arrives enraged, determined to avenge her son and assassinate Beowulf. While everyone, including Beowulf, is dead asleep, she takes Grendel’s arm from the ceiling and kidnaps one of Hrothgar’s warriors named Aeschere.

They depart Heorot the next morning in search of Grendel’s mother. They come across Aeschere’s head on a tall mountain while looking for her footprints. They follow the trail, and Beowulf discovers Grendel’s mother in a deep, dark cave. She leads him to the lake’s bottom, where their fight begins. Beowulf is impervious to her strikes due to the might of his sword, which was forged by the renowned smith Weland.

It is, however, too weak to harm Grendel’s mother. Beowulf comes across another blade laying in the cave, grabs it, and pierces her spine and neck with it. Her blood melts the blade, illuminating the cave with a dazzling ray of light. Beowulf unearths a priceless relic.

Third Battle

Another beast comes along one day and disrupts the quiet. A massive fire-breathing dragon this time. The dragon is enraged because a thief took a goblet from the treasure it had been protecting for a long time. The dragon begins to terrorize Geatland, setting fire to homes and murdering its residents. Beowulf collects his bravest men, as well as the thief who knows where the dragon resides, and prepares to fight the beast. The dragon appears to be fearsome, and all of Beowulf’s soldiers flee the battlefield. Wiglaf, Beowulf’s most devoted warrior, is the only one who sticks with him. In this unbalanced combat, he stays faithful to his convictions and supports his monarch. Beowulf and Wiglaf defeat the dragon together. Unfortunately, because to an injury and his numerous wounds, Beowulf does not survive the conflict. His dying wish is to bequeath his realm to Wiglaf, as a prize for remaining loyal to his monarch despite all odds and horrors.

Epilogue

Wiglaf, the new king, and the people of Geatland honor Beowulf and his achievements by organizing a massive funeral procession. His other dying desire was to be cremated, so they built a big barrow to hold his remains. The barrow is also brimming with valuables that attest to Beowulf’s importance. Another last request of Beowulf’s was for his burial site to be visible from the sea, so that anybody passing by may see it.

Punctuation for Quotation Marks: Everything Essential You Need to Know in 2022

punctuation for quotation marks is one of the major important writing aspects you need to hack. Our guide is designed to help you with all you need to know about punctuation marks and quotation marks.

Need help with your Essay/ Homework?  GET AN INSTANT QUOTE

Summary

When writing direct quotes, titles of particular works, implying different interpretations, and writing words as words, we employ quotation marks.

Quotation marks are not used to separate block quotations.

If you’re quoting a complete sentence, the quoted text is capitalized; if you’re quoting a fragment, it’s not.

When should quotation marks be used?

When you want to use someone else’s words in your writing, use quotation marks. Let’s pretend you’d like to write about something your friend said. This is how you could go about it:

“I despise it when it’s hot outside,” John added.

With a few adjustments, you can write about the same thing without using quote marks:

When it was hot outside, John stated he despised it.

You report the exact words John used in the first statement, which is a direct quote. The second statement is a paraphrasing of what John stated, which an indirect quote is. Only direct quotes require quotation marks.

This norm applies to more than just speech. If you’re quoting a written source, keep the quote in quotation marks unless you’re going to paraphrase it.

Block and run-in quotations

There are two types of direct quotations: run-in and block. Run-in quotations are shorter and formatted in the same way as the rest of the text. Long quotes that are separated from the surrounding text are known as block quotes. They usually appear as a new paragraph (or sequence of paragraphs) with a different font, altered line spacing, or a wider margin. Even though they are direct quotes, block quotes do not require quotation marks to distinguish them from the rest of the text.

And, in case you’re wondering how long a quote must be to be considered a block quote, the length varies depending on the style guide. If you must adhere to a style guide, review it for best practices. If you don’t have to follow a style guide, develop your own guideline (for example, a block quotation is five lines of text) and stick to it.

The guidelines for using quotation marks are as follows:

The first law of quotations is that they must be closed after they have been opened. The person reading your work must be able to tell where the quote begins and stops. But that’s a simple task. How about some more challenging quotation mark rules?

Capitalization and quotations

The content inside quotation marks is sometimes capitalized, and sometimes it isn’t. The quoted material’s capitalization is determined by the material itself; if you’re quoting a whole sentence, you should begin the quote with a capital letter, even if it’s in the middle of a phrase:

“There’s no chance we’ll get there in time,” she said emphatically.

Don’t start a quote with a capital letter if you’re quoting a phrase or a section of a sentence:

He shut the door after describing them as “loud, smelly, and absolutely irritating.”

If you’re going to divide a quote in two to insert a parenthetical, don’t do it.

The second portion of the quote should be capitalized:

“The problem with opinions is that everyone has one,” Paula explained.

Other punctuation symbols and quotation marks

Is it better to put punctuation inside or outside quotation marks? This subject largely concerns the punctuation marks at the end of sentences; punctuation marks that begin a quote are never placed within quotation marks.

Punctuation at the end of sentences is a different story. In the United States, commas and periods are always placed inside quotation marks, but colons and semicolons (as well as dashes) are placed outside:

“Last night there was a storm,” Paul explained.

Peter, on the other hand, was not convinced. “I’m not convinced that’s what happened.”

Peter was well aware of Paul’s “weakness triangle”: he was deaf in one ear, slept like a log, and was prone to lying.

Paul anticipated a quarrel and murmured merely “But I saw it”; it was going to be a long night, and he didn’t want to start it off with a battle.

Exclamation points and question marks have their own set of regulations.

They go inside the quotation marks if they apply to the cited item. They travel outside the sentence if they apply to the entire sentence:

“Why do you people always fight?” Sandy inquired.

Is it true that the dog barked every time Sandy said, “I’m bringing dinner”?

There are quotes within quotes.

Now that you’ve learned how to use quotation marks, punctuation, and capitalization, what if the quote you want to use already has quotation marks? This is also possible. Let’s say you want to write a straight quote from one of the Harry Potter books in which someone praises their favorite chapter. Would you do it this way?

“In the entire series, “The Dementor’s Kiss” is my favorite chapter,” Tom commented.

Doesn’t seem to function, does it? You might even be able to perplex your word processor. However, if you do it this way, everything will look a lot better:

“In the entire series, ‘The Dementor’s Kiss’ is my favorite chapter,” Tom commented.

See how much better that was? For quotes within quotes, we use single quotation marks.

Titles of short works, words as words, and scare quotes are examples of other usage of quotation marks.

There are a few other uses for quotation marks besides putting off other people’s speech. You might use quotation marks to highlight titles of all types of works (AP Stylebook) or simply short compositions (AP Stylebook) depending on the style guide you’re using (most of the other style guides). Italicize the titles of books, albums, magazines, newspapers, and other single and larger works of work. Quote marks are used to emphasize poems, chapters, and articles—smaller bodies of work or bodies of work that make up a larger body of work.

Quote marks can also be used to indicate words that are used as words. To take a breath, for example, “inhale” implies to take a breath. The quotation marks indicate that you’re discussing the term itself rather than the action of breathing. However, other style guides may prescribe different standards, such as italicizing words used as words rather of putting them in quote marks.

Some writers use quotation marks around words from which they desire to separate themselves. Scare quotes or shiver quotes are the terms for quotation marks used in this manner. It implies that you’re using a term in an uncommon way or that you don’t necessarily agree with it:

The author of this essay is a “professional” writer.

Scare quotes are similar to air quotes, and if you’re familiar with air quotes, you’ll know that they’re best used in moderation. Scare quotes are the same way.

For translations, quotation marks may be used instead of parentheses. As a result, you can compose translations like this:

When they first met, she said bonjour (good day).

However, you may also do it this way:

When they first met, she said bonjour, which means “good day.”

Only use single quotation marks.

Single quotation marks can be used for quotes within quotes, as we’ve already mentioned. But that’s not all; they can also be used instead of parentheses for translations, and they don’t have to be separated by commas in that case:

When they first met, she said bonjour, which means “good day.”

Single quotation marks can also be used to write highly specific words in certain fields:

Many academics continue to debate Lacan’s ‘desire’ and its consequences.

In newspaper headlines, single quotation marks are also used instead of double quotation marks. Of course, all of these restrictions pertain to American English—the difference between single and double quotation marks in British English is a completely separate topic.

How to Start an Argument Essay: The Best Tips

Are you stuck on how how to start an argument essay? we got the best solution for you. Follow our guidelines below, or let us do the dirty work for you for a small fee by ordering an essay from our website.

In an argumentative essay, a solid opener is similar to a good opening statement in a trial. A writer, like a lawyer, must convey the subject, provide background, and make the primary argument in a logical, intelligent, and persuasive manner.

Need help with your Essay/ Homework?  GET AN INSTANT QUOTE

Begin with a hook.

Begin your introduction with a line that piques the reader’s attention. You can start with a quote, a personal tale, a shocking statistic, or an intriguing question to stimulate the reader’s interest. If you’re arguing that smoking should be banned in all public places, for example, you can begin by citing a statistic from a credible source: “According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use kills more than five million people every year, more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined.” While introducing the essay’s topic, this method draws the reader’s attention.

Include some background information.

Readers will be better able to comprehend the issue if they are given background information on the subject. This information can help you clarify and argue your claim by providing context and history. If you’re arguing that the United States should never have a military draft, for example, your introduction could include information about the draft’s history and the events that led to its abolition.

Make a thesis statement.

An argumentative essay’s thesis is its heart. It summarizes everything you’re trying to say in a single, straightforward sentence. The thesis statement should take a stand on a certain issue, one that a reader might disagree with. As a result, the thesis cannot be true. If your professor gives you the topic of war, for example, you could write a thesis statement like this: “The United Nations must be redesigned because it is currently incapable of avoiding wars.” The rest of your essay is dedicated to explaining and proving your thesis statement.

What Not to Include

Arguments and analysis that belong in the body paragraphs should not be described in the introduction. Rather than laying out data to support your claim, your introduction should establish and set up your point. Also, while your introduction serves as a road map for the body of the essay, you shouldn’t state exactly what you’ll be arguing: “I’m going to prove to you that…” This style of layout adds no useful information and merely serves as filler.

What Is an Argumentative Essay and How Do I Write One?

An argumentative essay is a piece of writing in which the author takes a position on a topic. A writer strives to persuade readers to understand and support their point of view on a topic in a good argumentative essay by presenting their reasoning and offering evidence to back it up.

Writing an argumentative essay is a regular task for high school and college students. Science, technology, politics, and health care are all common themes for argumentative essays.

4 Steps to Outlining an Argumentative Essay

Argumentative essays should have a simple framework that is easy to follow by the reader. An argumentative essay’s purpose is to clearly lay out a point of view, reasoning, and evidence. This is the framework of an excellent argumentative essay:

The first paragraph is an introduction. The first paragraph of your essay should express your thesis, explain the issue, provide background information needed to comprehend your argument, and outline the evidence you will present.

The thesis statement is the main idea of the paper. This is the first sentence of your paragraph. It’s a one-sentence synopsis of your primary point and assertion.

Paragraphs in the body. The reasons why you defend your thesis are explained in three or more paragraphs in a typical argumentative essay. Each body paragraph should address a new idea or piece of evidence and include a topic sentence that explains why the reader should agree with your argument in a clear and simple manner. In the body paragraphs, you’ll support your claims using examples, research, statistics, studies, and text citations. Address and refute opposing points of view, as well as explain why you disagree with them. Presenting facts and looking at a topic from all sides will help you build credibility and gain a reader’s trust.

Conclusion: One paragraph that restates your thesis and summarizes all of your body paragraphs’ arguments. A good ending will appeal to the reader’s emotions rather than adding fresh facts or arguments. In some circumstances, writers will utilize a personal tale to demonstrate how the topic impacts them personally.

3 Steps to Writing a Thesis Statement

The most significant aspect of your argumentative essay is your thesis statement, which is simply one phrase long. The thesis, which occurs in the first paragraph of your essay, outlines the topic of your argumentative essay and prepares the reader for what’s to come. These steps will assist you in conveying your message clearly and concisely:

  1. Make the topic into a question, and then respond to it. In the headline of your essay or inside the first few phrases, pose a huge question. Then, in your thesis statement, build up to addressing that question. For example, you may ask, “What is the best type of sandwich?” in your title or introduction. Then respond with your thesis statement: “Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are the best.” This strategy works because intriguing questions entice readers to keep reading in order to find out the solution.
  2. Make a claim and then dispute it. Introduce a concept that contradicts your beliefs and explain why you disagree with it right away. “While some people think peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are too basic, they’re versatile sandwiches that can easily be transformed into a gourmet supper,” for example. This strategy is powerful since it relies on evidence and establishes your credibility right away.
  3. Outline your major points in a few sentences. Introduce your key claim and the evidence you’ll use to support it. “Using artisanal bread, toasting the bread, and adding other toppings may convert a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into a gourmet lunch,” for example. This strategy works well since it gives readers a clear notion of what you’ll be talking about throughout your essay. It also acts as a road map to keep you on track and organized.

There are five different types of argument claims.

Consider how you’ll deliver your argument once you’ve decided what you’re debating and have a thesis statement. There are five different types of argument claims that you can use to help you write your essay:

Whether the assertion is accurate or incorrect is a fact.

Definition: both the dictionary definition and your own personal interpretation of what you’re arguing about.

The significance of what you’re arguing.

What creates the problem in your essay, and what effects does it have?

Why should the reader care, and what should they do about it after reading?

The Three Most Common Argument Types and How to Use Them

An argumentative essay can be structured in three ways. To compose your persuasive paper, choose one of the following options or mix them:

Classical. Present the major argument, express your viewpoint, and try your best to persuade the reader that your point of view is correct. This technique, also known as Aristotelian, is the most popular for developing an argument since it is the simplest to follow. It works well when your audience doesn’t have a lot of background knowledge or a strong opinion on the subject because it lays out the facts clearly and concisely.

Rogerian. Present the issue, accept the opposing viewpoint, present your position, and explain why yours is the most advantageous to the reader. Because it respects both views and presents the center ground, this form of argument is excellent for polarizing topics.

Toulmin. Present your assertion, then provide evidence to support it. Finally, demonstrate that the evidence is connected to the claim. This style of argument is similarly useful for divisive topics, but instead of presenting both sides, it just offers one, relying on data provided in such a way that the assertion is difficult to refute.

Knowing how to properly arrange your point of view is the key to a strong argumentative essay, whether you’re writing an essay as an aesthetic exercise or trying to grab the attention of a top newspaper. What is a career objective?

A resume’s career aim is a section that quickly describes the skills, experience, and talents that candidates have to offer. The career aim is usually placed near the top of the resume, directly after the applicant’s name and contact information. A good rule of thumb is to keep it to two or three sentences, or roughly two lines of text.

A hiring manager may only spend a few seconds on each CV due to the high volume of resumes they receive. They scan from the top of the page down, so the career aim is one of the first things they’ll notice. Consider this your 30-second elevator pitch to a potential employer.

Your career ambition should be tailored to the position you’re applying for. Using terminology from the job posting you’re responding to is one approach to do this. Look for keywords in the job description that you can use in your objective to help it stand out and increase the likelihood that the hiring manager will read the remainder of your materials.

How do you make a career goal?

To build an effective career aim, follow these steps:

1. Keep it short and sweet.

To ensure that the recruiting manager can read your purpose quickly, keep it to two or three sentences. You can cut terms like “the,” “a,” and “such as” from your objective if you need to make it shorter.

2. Make it specific to each position.

Make sure your objective is directly related to the recruiter to get the recruiter’s attention quickly. To help you stand out, try mentioning similar abilities or applications that you are familiar with.

3. Emphasize your assets

Your job goal might help you distinguish out among the competition. You can demonstrate how you can accomplish the job better than anyone else by adding your particular qualities. Mention terms like “critical thinker,” “problem solver,” and “organized and devoted.”

4. Include any pertinent needs.

If the position has any educational or experience criteria, including them in your resume goal will instantly demonstrate to the recruiter that you meet those needs. Include any relevant degrees, qualifications, or licenses you hold.

5. Describe your worth.

Employers are looking for employees who can offer value to the organization in a distinctive way. Explain how you can help the company if they hire you near the end of your target. To demonstrate your worth, describe your commitment to your profession, experience, or professional goals.
